Road‑movement plan for Oct 6‑9

Starting Tuesday, Agra will implement extensive traffic modifications as it prepares for the Shri Ram Barat and the three‑day Janakpuri festival. Authorities have outlined which corridors will be shut, alternative routes, and special ingress points to accommodate the surge of devotees and maintain a steady flow of vehicles.

Ban on medium‑ and heavy‑weight trucks on NH‑19

Throughout the Janakpuri celebrations, trucks above a certain tonnage will be prohibited on a segment of National Highway‑19 from 3 p.m. to 1 a.m. each day. Traffic arriving from Gwalior toward Firozabad, Hathras and Etah will be diverted via Rohta Canal Junction and the Inner Ring Road, while vehicles coming from Jaipur will use the Mahuar Cut and the Southern Bypass. On the day of the Ram Barat, NH‑19 will operate normally for light traffic, but heavy vehicles will still be barred from entering the municipal boundary.

Street closures along the Ram Barat procession

The procession route forces the suspension of traffic on several historic lanes. Movement between Belanganj and Ghatiya Azam Khan will be halted, as will the connections linking Ghatiya with Phulti, Hospital Road with Fawwara, and Manakamneshwar Gate with Daresi. From midday, auto‑rickshaws, e‑rickshaws, loading tempos and private cars will be prohibited in Rawatpara, Subhash Bazaar, Chimman Puri and Daresi. Additional restrictions will take effect around 4 p.m. for Chhata Bazaar, Kachhari Ghat and Belanganj as the convoy proceeds.

Janakpuri corridor restrictions

On 7 October, the Ram Barat tableau will move from Manakamneshwar Temple to the Janakpuri venue. The stretch between the Bhawna Estate junction and Janakpuri Mahal will be closed to all traffic. Entry bans start at 11 p.m. on 6 October, and any previously issued exemption permits will be nullified for the duration of the event.

Designated pilgrim entry gates

Five dedicated gates will channel devotees into the Janakpuri complex:

  • KK Nagar Cut
  • Purushottam Khandelwal Cut
  • Bhawna Estate Cut
  • Bullet Adda Showroom Cut
  • Amar Ujala Cut

Additional access points are available via Sikandra Tiraha, Purushottam Khandelwal Cut and Gurudwara Cut.

Parking allocations

Seven parking zones have been earmarked for attendees. Capacity highlights include approximately 700‑750 slots at the Naveen Jain plot, 300‑350 at Kamal Chaudhary’s site, and about 200‑225 spread across three parcels near Dev College. A vehicle‑free corridor will run from the barrier beside Bhawna Estate Apartments through Janak Mahal to Ramraghu Apartments; residents may traverse it only with valid proof of residence.

Overall crowd‑management approach

These comprehensive restrictions are designed to handle the massive crowds expected at both festivities. Police have segmented the city into zones and sectors, while security teams will monitor the Ram Barat route using drones. Commuters are urged to plan journeys around the revised routes and respect the time‑bound bans. All measures remain active until each program concludes, after which normal traffic conditions will resume.
