Fast‑track Growth and Emerging Standards

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda pointed out the lightning‑quick rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, noting that the hospital has already eclipsed its original 750‑bed goal and now operates with 776 beds. In a remarkably short span, the centre has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty departments, offering everything from intricate cardiac catheterisations to cutting‑edge radiotherapy and neurosurgery.

Surge in Patient Turn‑out

The outpatient department (OPD) has logged over 12 lakh consultations in the last four years, while inpatient admissions have crossed the one‑lakh threshold. During the 2024‑25 fiscal year alone, OPD visits topped three lakh and diagnostic examinations surpassed ten lakh, reflecting growing community confidence in the facility’s capabilities.

Academic Achievements and Leadership Milestones

AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its first MBBS cohort in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation marked the graduation of that inaugural batch, a landmark for the institute’s teaching mission. President Droupadi Murmu, who graced the ceremony, urged the new doctors to centre their practice around service to humanity and to deliver quality care to the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.

Expansion of Clinical Facilities

Beyond the rising bed count, the hospital now provides a comprehensive suite of high‑end procedures: major surgeries, cardiac interventions, dialysis, extensive diagnostic services, and a dedicated cancer care wing. Faculty and staff have been lauded for achieving this scale of growth at a speed that typically takes newer AIIMS campuses many more years to match.

Future Outlook

Minister Nadda expressed confidence that, within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the nation’s flagship AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and patient‑centric care is poised to cement its status as a premier hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
