Incident summary
In the pre‑dawn hours of Thursday, personnel of the Border Security Force posted at the Rajoke Border Outpost in the Khalra sector of Tarn Taran observed a group moving suspiciously across the India‑Pakistan line. The confrontation occurred at roughly 00:35 hrs, involving three to four individuals attempting to slip into Indian territory.
How the clash unfolded
Night‑vision footage recorded the party advancing toward the Indian side. BSF guards first issued verbal commands to halt, but the suspects persisted. The troops were forced to open fire, killing two of the entrants while the third fled back over the border.
The bodies were retrieved and taken into BSF custody. While their identities have not yet been confirmed, early intelligence points to Pakistani nationality, though the force has not released an official statement. Pakistani Rangers have been informed of the episode.
Post‑incident sweep
Following the exchange, security agencies commenced a thorough sweep of the nearby stretch of the frontier on Friday. Teams are combing the terrain to determine whether any additional intruders managed to penetrate Indian soil.
The operation also aims to locate any weapons, narcotics or other contraband that may have been hidden in the area, with investigators probing a possible link to cross‑border smuggling, a persistent challenge in this sector.
Smuggling links under review
The corridor has a history of illicit trafficking, including drone‑delivered drugs and arms. At present, investigators have found no solid evidence tying the two deceased to any organized smuggling network.
Investigative progress
Forensic teams are working to verify the identities of the deceased and to ascertain the motive behind the infiltration attempt. Further updates will be provided as the probe continues.
