Dehradun – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a package of five development schemes worth a total of ₹20.55 crore on the campus of Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University in Selaqui. The ceremony marked the laying of foundation stones for three flagship projects valued at ₹20.21 crore and the commissioning of two smaller initiatives amounting to ₹34 lakh.
New Campus Infrastructure Takes Shape
The announced works include a new administrative block, a state‑of‑the‑art amphitheatre and a “Nakshatra Vatika,” a garden themed around the night‑sky constellations. In addition, the chief minister opened the university’s revamped main gate and a modern dental hospital equipped with advanced technology.
During the event, CM Dhami offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati and laid flowers at the statue of the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, paying homage to his contributions. He emphasized that the university is a cornerstone for training the next generation of medical professionals and that these facilities will uplift the learning environment while catalyzing regional growth.
Dhami reaffirmed Uttarakhand’s dedication to producing skilled doctors, nurses and allied‑health workers, noting the profound social duty of the medical fraternity to save lives and restore hope. He added that compassion, sensitivity and unwavering commitment remain the profession’s guiding principles.
The chief minister also disclosed that a proposal for a super‑speciality hospital on the university grounds has been submitted to the Union Ministry of Health, with further progress contingent upon central approval.
Healthcare Infrastructure Expands Across the State
Aligned with the national drive for stronger health services, Uttarakhand is bolstering its own network. The state presently runs five government medical colleges, two of which are under construction, alongside nine nursing colleges and three nursing schools.
Super‑speciality services are being upgraded at the medical colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar. A world‑class cancer institute is under development in Haldwani, while district hospitals and community health centres are receiving systematic enhancements.
In Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar, a ₹351 crore AIIMS satellite centre is being built to deliver top‑tier care to a wide catchment area. Tele‑medicine platforms and helicopter ambulance services are further bridging the gap for remote populations, and the government is intensifying recruitment and training of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for its public hospitals.
Uttarakhand Youth Finding Opportunities Abroad
State‑run foreign‑language training programmes are opening pathways to overseas employment. In 2023, sixty candidates secured jobs in Japan, and in 2025, thirteen were placed in Germany. Among them, Sapna Rana’s success story stands out—she landed a role in Germany after completing German‑language training.
Graduates from Uttarakhand’s institutions are also making their mark in prestigious Indian establishments such as AIIMS, PGI, the Indian Railways and the Military Nursing Service.
More Than 35,000 Government Posts Created in Five Years
Dhami reiterated the administration’s commitment to safeguarding the future of the state’s youth. A stringent anti‑copying law now governs recruitment examinations, ensuring transparency. Over the past five years, more than 35,000 young Uttarakhandis have entered government service through merit‑based selections.
Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal confirmed that the government continues to invest in modern infrastructure for medical colleges, guaranteeing high‑quality education and training for students.
