Dehradun: In broad daylight, a woman was allegedly dragged toward a black car near Nalapani Chowk, sparking outrage after the incident went viral on social media. The Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission took suo motu cognizance and ordered immediate action.
What happened?
On Wednesday morning, a resident of the Nalapani Chowk area was riding her scooter home after seeing her daughter board a college bus. Several masked men in a black vehicle reportedly followed her and tried to force her inside the car.
Resistance and rescue
The woman fought back, managing to escape the attackers. Nearby female sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation witnessed the struggle, rushed to the scene, and confronted the assailants, causing them to flee.
Official response
Women’s Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal immediately contacted SP (Rural) Jaya Baluni and Circle Officer Vandana Verma. Police confirmed that a case has been lodged at Raipur police station and an investigation is underway.
Three special investigation teams have been formed to track the perpetrators. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from the incident spot and surrounding streets to identify the suspects and the vehicle involved.
Commission’s directives
Kandwal urged the police to leave no stone unturned—whether the motive stems from personal rivalry, old enmity, or a larger criminal conspiracy. She praised the victim’s courage and the swift intervention of the sanitation workers, insisting that the investigation be swift, transparent, and result in concrete legal action.
The Commission will closely monitor the progress of the case, emphasizing that any act that threatens women’s safety must be dealt with firmly under the law.
