Hathras – A surprise verification exercise conducted by the state transport department outside Bagla Combined District Hospital on Monday evening led to the impoundment of five privately‑operated ambulances for alleged non‑compliance with transport rules.

Why the Sweep Was Initiated?

The operation targeted vehicles parked at the hospital’s main entrance and the adjacent over‑bridge. Inspectors from the enforcement wing, headed by Assistant Regional Transport Officer Laxman Prasad and Probationary Transport Officer Ram Babu, examined each ambulance to verify that all mandatory paperwork was in order.

Documents Under Review

The team checked a range of documents, including:

  • Vehicle registration certificates
  • Fitness certificates
  • Insurance policies
  • Road‑tax receipts
  • Applicable permits and licences

All five ambulances were found missing one or more of these essential documents, prompting their immediate seizure.

Two operators opted to settle the violation on the spot, paying a total of roughly Rs 12,000. The remaining three vehicles are now subject to formal legal proceedings, and all seized ambulances have been transferred to the ARTO office for further disposition.

Continuing Enforcement Effort

The transport department stressed that this inspection is part of an ongoing campaign to curb unlicensed or improperly documented ambulances operating around the district hospital. Authorities are also cracking down on illegal parking of ambulances that linger near hospital premises while awaiting patients.

By tightening oversight, officials aim to guarantee that every private ambulance serving the community adheres to the required safety and regulatory standards.
