Four Cyber Scammers Nabbed in Deoghar After Masquerading as Customer Care Agents

Deoghar. A coordinated effort by the Deoghar Cyber Police and Madhupur Police led to the arrest of four alleged cyber fraudsters operating out of the Madhupur police‑station jurisdiction. Six mobile phones and four SIM cards were confiscated from the suspects.

The operation was triggered by a tip received by Superintendent of Police Praveen Pushkar. A special task force, headed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Kailash Prasad Mahto, executed the raid and took the accused into custody.

The men identified by the investigation are Anish Das of Bariyahi Garha (Madhupur), Sumesh Mehra of Kharnna village (Sarath), Rahul Das of Rohini Ajan Tola (Jasidih) and Dinesh Das of Guniasol (Madhupur).

During interrogation, the accused reportedly admitted to their involvement in online fraud and explained their modus operandi. Investigators say they impersonated customer‑care representatives of popular digital payment services such as Google Pay, PhonePe and Paytm.

They allegedly lured victims with promises of cashback, PM‑Kisan subsidies, electricity bill discounts and RTO fine waivers. Once trust was established, they sent counterfeit APK files to the victims’ phones. After the victims installed the malicious apps, the fraudsters allegedly gained remote control of the devices and siphoned money from the linked bank accounts.

Forensic experts are now conducting a thorough technical analysis of the seized phones and SIM cards. Authorities are also working to quantify the total number of victims and trace the flow of the misappropriated funds.

All four individuals have been placed in judicial custody pending further legal proceedings.
