Lucknow: India's Fortress in the Short Format
India walk into the first T20 encounter with an unblemished record at Ekana Cricket Stadium, having triumphed in all three Twenty‑20 Internationals played there so far. Wins against West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka have turned the ground into a comfortable hunting ground for the home side.
The inaugural international at Ekana was itself an India‑West Indies clash back in November 2018, when Rohit Sharma’s dazzling century steered India to victory.
Fresh Leadership for the White‑Ball Squad
The side will be marshalled by Shreyas Iyer, with Tilak Varma acting as his deputy. The lineup blends aggression with depth: explosive openers like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan and the promising Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, while Iyer, Varma and Shivam Dube provide stability in the middle order.
On the bowling front, India retain Arshdeep Singh, Mayank Yadav, Axar Patel and left‑arm wrist‑spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Fast‑bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah sits out to manage his workload.
Kuldeep Yadav: A Decisive Weapon
Among the buzz‑generating names is left‑arm wrist‑spinner Kuldeep Yadav. The Kanpur‑born bowler knows Lucknow’s pitches intimately, having featured in the 2018 victory over the West Indies where he claimed two vital wickets. His familiarity with the conditions could prove pivotal once again.
Batting Firepower on Both Sides
India’s top order brims with power hitters. Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ishan Kishan can deliver blistering starts, while Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube add depth further down.
The visitors will lean on their seasoned T20 campaigners. West Indies, led by Shai Hope, will count on the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase and Rovman Powell to blend experience with flair.
Series Itinerary
The five‑match T20 series launches in Lucknow on 6 October, with subsequent fixtures slated for Ranchi, Indore, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. All matches are scheduled as evening games.
With the ODI series already settled 2‑1 in India’s favour, the T20 leg offers a fresh canvas. The Lucknow opener will be the first real test of each side’s adaptability to the shortest format and whether India can extend its unbeaten run at Ekana.
