In the pre‑dawn hours of Sunday, a devastating crash unfolded in the Sachendi area of Kanpur. Sundarlal Kushwaha, 55, and his 22‑year‑old son Manoj were on a two‑wheeler returning from a relative’s house when a vehicle barreling from behind smashed into them near the Udaipur Kanjad Dera junction.
Chronology of the incident
Having just left their kin, Phool Singh, the duo set off toward their home in Bambi. At roughly 10:30 p.m., an unknown car rammed into the rear of their motorcycle, hurling both riders onto the road. The driver did not stop; instead, the vehicle sped away from the scene.
Immediate emergency response
Bystanders quickly dialed emergency services and notified the police. Officers arrived, administered first aid, and rushed the injured father and son to CHC Kalyanpur. Despite the medical team's efforts, both victims were declared dead on arrival. Their bodies were later sent for post‑mortem examination, and the bereaved family received official notification.
Background of the victims
Manoj, the only son of Sundarlal, worked as a mason and was also a brother to a younger sister, intensifying the family's grief. The sudden loss of both generations has plunged the household into profound sorrow.
Police investigation
Sachendi police have launched a hunt for the runaway vehicle. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from cameras positioned around the crash site and adjacent streets to pinpoint the make and registration number of the offending car. Inspector Deenanath Mishra confirmed the fatality of two lives and assured that the probe is ongoing, with legal action to follow once the family files a formal complaint.
What comes next
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any tip that could help identify the driver. The case highlights the perils of reckless driving and underscores the urgent need for stricter road‑safety measures in the region.
