Karachi – In the early hours of Monday, the modest Hindu shrine located in the remote hamlet of Rathi, close to Nagarparkar, was forcibly entered and its sacred icons were smashed. The temple’s caretaker discovered the damage at dawn and promptly alerted local authorities.

Suspect placed in police custody

Shiva Kaachi, chairperson of the Pakistan Darawar Ittehad NGO, confirmed that law‑enforcement officials have taken a man into custody, believing him to be the main culprit. No further details about the individual or the exact circumstances of his arrest have been released.

The temple’s place in a predominantly Hindu region

Although small, the Mata Jog Maya Temple is one of several worship sites that punctuate the villages around Nagarparkar, an area with a significant Hindu population. These temples act as focal points for daily prayers, festivals and community gatherings.

Ongoing investigation

Investigators are assessing the full scope of the vandalism and exploring the possibility of accomplices. Forensic teams are collecting evidence while police interview nearby residents and temple devotees.

Pattern of similar attacks

Earlier this year, the Kali Mata Temple in Hyderabad’s Fateh Chowk district suffered a comparable attack, sparking protests and road blockades by the local Hindu community. Such incidents have reignited worries about the protection of minority religious sites across Sindh.
