Meerut Court Delivers Verdict in Amit Kashyap Murder Case

On Wednesday, Additional District Judge Jaiveer Singh Nagar of Meerut’s District Court No. 12 pronounced a guilty verdict against Ravita, the widow of the late Amit Kashyap, and her alleged paramour Amardeep. Both defendants were escorted from custody under tight security to hear the judgment.

How the Crime Unfolded

The tragedy dates back to April 2025, when Amit Kashyap’s lifeless body was discovered inside his home in the Bahsuma police‑station area of Akbarpur Sadat village. Prosecutors maintain that Ravita and Amardeep plotted to end his life.

Prosecution’s Theory of a Staged Attack

According to the state’s case, Ravita allegedly restrained her husband while Amardeep carried out the strangulation. Investigators quickly ruled out an accidental death, treating the incident as a pre‑meditated homicide.

A striking element of the prosecution’s narrative was the attempt to disguise the murder as a snakebite. After the killing, a live snake was supposedly placed beside the corpse to mislead the investigators.

The first person to notice something was wrong was Amit’s five‑year‑old son, Aniket, who found his father unresponsive the following morning. Family members arrived, spotted a snake near the body, and secured the reptile in a container.

Subsequent medical examinations disproved the snake‑bite hypothesis, prompting police to shift their focus and eventually arrest Ravita and Amardeep.

Key Witness Testimony

The prosecution called twelve witnesses to the stand. Among them, Amit’s mother Munesh and his brother Monu recounted seeing Amardeep enter the house on the night of the murder.

A snake‑charmer also testified, identifying Amardeep as the person who supplied the snake that had been “borrowed” for a supposed religious programme. This testimony reinforced the claim that the reptile was deliberately introduced to fabricate a false cause of death.

Defense’s Counter‑Arguments

Ravita chose not to present any witnesses in her defence. Amardeep’s uncle attempted to create an alibi, stating that his nephew was staying at his maternal uncle’s residence on the day in question.

Verdict and What Comes Next

After weighing the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court convicted Ravita and Amardeep of murder, bringing the trial phase to a close. Amit’s mother Munesh has appealed for a harsh punishment. The sentencing hearing is slated for 16 October.
