Jamui. The primary alleged perpetrator in the Jamui case of purported harassment and assault of two minor students sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during a police encounter on Tuesday. Nandan Yadav was shot, taken into custody and rushed to Jamui Sadar Hospital for medical care after the operation.
According to investigators, the episode unfolded on 19 September when the two minors were allegedly intercepted by a group of men. The confrontation was captured on video, which later spread across social platforms, prompting law‑enforcement to identify the participants and launch a series of arrests. Three suspects were initially apprehended and a Special Investigation Team was constituted.
During the most recent sweep, police teams conducted raids along the Jamui‑Lakhisarai border near Kunder to locate the remaining suspects. Sources say the accused tried to flee, triggering an exchange of fire that resulted in Nandan Yadav’s leg injury before he was escorted to the hospital.
Another individual, identified as Hareram Yadav, is also reported to have been injured in the same operation. Details about his condition and the precise circumstances of his injury are still being examined.
Jamui District Magistrate Naveen Kumar visited the hospital after the incident, gathering updates from officials and monitoring the ongoing investigation. Police continue to conduct raids to round up the rest of the alleged perpetrators and are reviewing the facts surrounding the encounter.
Police Probe Continues
The case attracted widespread attention after the harrowing video was shared online. Investigators are scrutinising the footage to pinpoint each participant’s role and to prevent the further dissemination of material that could reveal the identity of the minor victims.
The National Commission for Women has taken suo motu cognisance of the matter and is urging swift action against those responsible.
Authorities affirm that the investigation remains active, with teams working diligently to apprehend the remaining suspects and reconstruct the full sequence of events.
