New Punjab Congress Head Pays Homage at Bangla Sahib Gurdwara
Chandigarh – Having just been sworn in as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Pargat Singh spent Saturday at Delhi’s Bangla Sahib Gurdwara, joining the congregation in prayer and contemplating the challenges that lie ahead.
Appealing for Unity and “Sarbat Da Bhala”
Addressing journalists after the visit, Singh urged Punjabis to remain united, invoking the timeless Sikh maxim Sarbat Da Bhala – the welfare of all. He highlighted that Punjab’s strength has always stemmed from communal harmony, a shared cultural fabric, and a collective sense of duty.
Rejecting Party Factionalism
When probed about rumors of internal splits, Singh dismissed the notion of factionalism. He acknowledged that “differences of opinion are inevitable in any political outfit,” but insisted that the Congress must function as a single, cohesive force. Emphasising his role as a team‑player, he pledged to involve senior leaders in shaping the party’s future roadmap.
Criticising the AAP Administration
Singh did not shy away from taking aim at the ruling Aam Aadmi Party in Punjab. He accused the government of mishandling public assets and state finances, likening the current administration to a “sandcastle” that, in his view, will soon crumble.
Condemning Divisive Tactics of the BJP
The new Congress chief also leveled sharp criticism at the Bharatiya Janata Party, branding its approach as polarising. Singh called for Punjab’s political dialogue to focus on the state’s genuine interests and the well‑being of its citizens, rather than on sectarian narratives.
Key Priorities for the Fresh Leadership
Singh outlined his immediate agenda: spotlighting issues that matter to Punjab, bolstering the party’s organisational structure, and safeguarding the state’s legacy of social concord. His elevation follows the removal of Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as state chief, marking a new chapter for the Punjab Congress under a collaborative working ethos.
