Lawyers Suspend All Judicial Proceedings at Rohini Courts

On Monday, members of the legal fraternity at Delhi’s Rohini Courts staged an unprecedented walk‑out, refusing to attend any scheduled hearings. The Rohini Court Bar Association announced a complete boycott, citing the alleged assault on Advocate Kamaldeep at the Mahendra Park police station.

Alleged Assault Inside Mahendra Park Police Station

The controversy erupted after an incident on 29 September, when Kamaldeep reported being subjected to verbal abuse and physical aggression by police personnel inside the Mahendra Park precinct. The bar’s executive committee immediately escalated the grievance to senior police officials, including the Joint Commissioner of Police and the DCP of the North‑West district, and informed the Principal District and Sessions Judge.

Bar Claims Police Retracted Earlier Assurance

Initially, the association received a verbal assurance that the officers involved would face disciplinary action. Lawyers now contend that, instead of sanctioning the police, a case was lodged against Kamaldeep himself. They allege that senior officers deliberately withheld this development from the bar’s executive committee, thereby breaching the trust established by the earlier promise.

Police Barred from Entering the Court Complex

In retaliation, the bar has prohibited all police officers—irrespective of jurisdiction—from entering the Rohini Court complex, including the Nayab Court, for the entire day of 5 October.

Call for Unity Among Advocates

The association urged its members to stand together throughout the boycott, emphasizing that the dignity, safety, and professional independence of lawyers must remain inviolable. Any attempts to intimidate the legal community, they warned, will be met with lawful resistance.

The standoff underscores a widening rift between the Rohini Court Bar Association and police authorities over the handling of the September 29 incident, with further developments expected as the matter proceeds through appropriate channels.
