New Delhi. In a dramatic pre‑dawn operation, Delhi police captured two men suspected of opening fire at a house in the Bhajanpura area. Both detainees were hit in the legs by police bullets during the clash. The officers also recovered three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle linked to the pair.
Who were the arrested individuals?
The two arrested are 23‑year‑old Jasim, locally known as “Aloo,” a resident of Welcome, and 23‑year‑old Kaif, who goes by the nickname “DJ.”
What triggered the gunfight?
According to police statements, the duo opened fire on officers who tried to stop them. Several rounds struck the bullet‑proof vests of the constables before the police returned fire, wounding both suspects and securing their capture.
How the incident was first reported
The episode unfolded on 2 October at around 2:43 a.m. in Gali No. 16, Subhash Vihar, North Ghonda, under the jurisdiction of Bhajanpura police station. A resident on his balcony reported two youths arriving on a scooter, brandishing pistols, firing at him and into the air, and then speeding away.
Stray bullets shattered the balcony’s glass railing and dented the external wall, though no one was injured. A case was lodged under sections dealing with attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.
Steps taken by investigators to locate the suspects
A Special Staff team was mobilised to track the gunmen. By analysing CCTV footage from nearby cameras and following tips from locals, police learned the pair intended to ride a motorcycle from Nanaksar to Usmanpur via Third Pushta Road.
Police positioned units along the suspected route and spotted the two men on a bike without a number plate at about 2:45 a.m. When ordered to halt, the suspects allegedly opened fire, prompting the police response that led to their arrest.
Background of the accused
During the seizure, investigators recovered three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 rounds of ammunition and the motorcycle used in the attack. A background check on Jasim revealed an existing case under the Arms Act registered with the Special Cell, whereas Kaif appears to have no prior criminal record.
Both men reportedly confessed to the balcony shooting and claimed they were acting on orders from a person identified as Rashid, alias “Cablewala.” Authorities are now probing the motive behind the assault and whether other individuals were involved in planning or executing the incident.
