Kullu/Nitthar. A tragic road accident occurred in the Nitthar sub‑tehsil of Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, when an Alto slipped off the Dwarch road near Seri and tumbled into a gorge about 500 metres deep. Both occupants were pronounced dead at the scene.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle was traveling toward Durah when it suddenly left the pavement close to Seri and plunged straight down the steep ravine. Residents who heard the crash rushed to the location and joined the rescue effort.
Rescue operation
The sheer depth of the gorge and the rugged terrain made recovery extremely difficult. Officers from the Nitthar police post, together with local volunteers, spent several hours on Friday searching for the wreckage. Between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., they managed to haul both bodies up to the road.
The recovered remains were taken to the Civil Hospital in Nirmand for post‑mortem examinations.
Victims identified
The deceased have been identified as Hari Singh, a resident of Shah in Lot Gram Panchayat, and Shyam Lal, who lived in Dwarch, Durah Gram Panchayat. The Alto was completely destroyed in the impact.
DSP Anni Rajiv Mehta confirmed the fatalities and said that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the crash.
