What to Expect

The state’s weather bureau has issued a yellow alert for Uttarakhand covering the period from October 6 through October 11. During these days the highlands will see a blend of rain, thunder and even snow at the loftiest peaks, while the lower plains are projected to stay largely dry.

Snowfall Forecast

According to Weather Director Dr. C.S. Tomar, snowfall should commence in areas above 4,200 metres between October 6 and 8. From October 9 to 11 the snow‑covered zone is expected to sink to roughly 3,800 metres, ushering a marked chill to the upper reaches.

Hill Districts Under Yellow Warning

Seven mountainous districts have been placed under special caution:

  • Chamoli
  • Nainital
  • Pithoragarh
  • Bageshwar
  • Almora
  • Rudraprayag
  • Uttarkashi

These regions may encounter wind gusts of 30‑40 km/h, frequent thunderstorms and the possibility of lightning strikes.

Rain and Thunderstorm Outlook

Light to moderate showers are forecast for several mountain stretches, accompanied by occasional gusts, thunder and lightning. The agency also anticipates moderate rain on October 6‑7 for Nainital, Champawat, Almora, Dehradun, Tehri and Pauri, with thunderstorms likely to accompany the precipitation.

Temperature Changes

As snow blankets the higher terrain, temperatures there will drop noticeably. In contrast, the lower‑lying plains should enjoy relatively milder and drier weather throughout the alert period.
