Jaipur. An extensive fire engulfed the Sethi Complex in Minhari Ji Ka Katla, Badi Chaupar, forcing police to lodge an FIR against the proprietor, Anand Sethi. Authorities allege that the building was erected in violation of regulations, that fire‑fighting gear was either absent or non‑functional, that no Fire NOC was secured, and that access routes were cramped and blocked.

The inferno ignited on the second floor and burned unabated for roughly 13 hours. As the flames leapt from one unit to another, stockpiled merchandise in several shops and warehouses was instantly consumed, compelling fire crews to mount a prolonged rescue and suppression effort.

Fire tenders struggled to reach the site because the surrounding lanes were too narrow and littered with obstacles. The constraints forced the brigade to improvise with temporary ladders and hoses, delaying containment.

Businesses hit hard

Among the affected entities were Satnam Madan Traders, Jitendra/Kamal, Kamal Agarwal, Shailendra Agarwal, Rajesh, Hasan, Ramesh/Rajesh, Rakesh Gupta’s Vimal Hosiery Agency, Chhotumai Purushottam, Ashok Kumar Sharma, Vikas Sharma, and shop numbers 201‑A through 206‑A. Vimal Hosiery Agency alone is estimated to have incurred losses of ₹65‑70 lakh, while the total damage to the remaining premises is still being evaluated.

Legal proceedings

The FIR stems from a complaint lodged by Sub‑Inspector Narendra, with SHO Rakesh Khalia overseeing the investigation. Police will scrutinize the building’s structural compliance, the state of fire‑safety installations, the presence (or lack) of a Fire NOC, and any other safety lapses.
