Kurukshetra: After a relentless five‑day hunt, the lifeless body of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage labourer from Ismailabad was retrieved from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to Kirmich village on Tuesday.

Discovery and Confirmation of Identity

Local residents noticed a body near a canal siphon and immediately informed a team of divers. Diver Pragat Singh headed the operation that pulled the corpse from the water. Police cross‑checked the recovered individual against missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp groups, which led to a positive identification.

The man, known in the neighbourhood as Dharmbir or “Bablu,” was a father of three daughters and the main provider for his family. Upon confirmation, his father Lal Chand and brother arrived at the site, verified the identity, and handed the body over to the authorities. The remains were then taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a post‑mortem.

Family’s Report of His Disappearance

Relatives say Dharmbir left home on the afternoon of 1 October and never returned. After searching nearby areas without success, the family filed a missing‑person report with the Ismailabad police station.

His father told investigators that Dharmbir had been dealing with personal stress and often complained about hand pain caused by the physically demanding nature of his work as a daily‑wage labourer.

The family also disclosed that his three daughters are aged between 1½ and 12 years. Dharmbir lived separately from his brothers, and no known conflicts or enemies were reported.

Police Investigation

KUK police Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar confirmed that officers reached the canal after receiving a tip about a body. Following the family’s identification, the corpse was dispatched for autopsy.

Investigators stated that further legal steps will hinge on the post‑mortem results and any additional evidence uncovered during the ongoing inquiry.
