Background
Pawan Kumar Garg, who heads the nursing division of the Orthopaedics Department at King George’s Medical University, was last seen on the night of 27 September after departing his residence in Keshav Nagar, Madiaon, accompanied by his friend Sachin.
Chronology of the disappearance
Police reports indicate the pair set off in Garg’s own vehicle. A surveillance camera at the Itaunja toll plaza captured the car passing the gate, though the driver’s face was obscured. Officers linked the attire visible in the recording to the outfit Garg wore that evening, and a second figure was clearly seated beside him.
Beyond the toll, the car arrived in Ludhauli village where Garg and Sachin joined a local gathering. Witnesses say a heated argument broke out, culminating in an alleged assault that left both men gravely injured.
After the confrontation, Garg’s mobile phone was found powered off. His relatives lodged a missing‑person complaint at the Madiaon police station on 29 September.
Police investigation
Investigators traced the vehicle’s route along the Lucknow‑Sitapur highway. The abandoned car was eventually located near Chadhehra Bazaar on the Jairampur road, within the Kamalapur locality of Sitapur, on Tuesday.
Interrogations of several suspects shed light on the Ludhauli meet‑up and the purported attack. Authorities now believe that, after being assaulted, Garg and Sachin were placed back into the car and possibly driven toward the Sitapur‑Bahraich border.
Search operations
In response, police have launched a coordinated sweep of the Ghaghra River, which is thought to be the route the perpetrators might have taken. Multiple police units, aided by the fire department and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), are combing the riverbanks and nearby terrain.
The probe remains active as officials work to reconstruct the exact chain of events after the two men reached Ludhauli and to locate the missing nursing superintendent.
