Tanakpur, Uttarakhand – A resident filed a formal complaint at the Kotwali police station in Champawat district, claiming that a man pretended to share her Hindu faith, befriended her, and later tried to force her into Islam and marriage. The authorities responded promptly, registering the case and taking the alleged perpetrator into custody.
Details of the Allegations
The complainant says the accused initially presented himself as a Hindu, establishing a close friendship that eventually became intimate. It was only after the relationship deepened that she discovered his actual religious identity as a Muslim. According to her, once his true faith was revealed, he began urging her to adopt Islam and to marry him.
She also alleges that the man threatened to leak her personal photographs on social media should she refuse his demands, adding intimidation to the purported pressure.
Police Action and Investigation
Champawat police treated the complaint with urgency. Following directives from the Superintendent of Police, investigators logged the matter under the appropriate legal sections and launched a comprehensive inquiry.
Investigators gathered statements, digital evidence, and any pertinent documents. After reviewing the collected material, the police proceeded with an arrest that complied with procedural guidelines.
Accused Identified
The individual taken into custody has been identified as Nishad Khan, son of Naseeb Hussain, a 22‑year‑old resident of Manihargoth, Tanakpur.
