Uttarakhand Unveils 90‑Day Innovation Hackathon 2026 to Tackle Statewide Challenges

Dehradun. On Tuesday, the Uttarakhand Innovation and Solutions Hackathon‑2026 kicked off at Graphic Era University, aiming to forge technology‑based remedies for the region’s rugged terrain and societal hurdles. The ceremony was led by Pradeep Batra, Minister for Information Technology, Science & Technology, and Biotechnology, and drew roughly 500 participants, including students, faculty, industry experts and budding innovators.

Spanning 90 days, the challenge seeks to marry youthful creativity with real‑world problems faced by the state. Contestants will concentrate on disaster mitigation, traffic and crowd control, health‑service accessibility, ecological stewardship, wildlife protection, tourism enhancement, and transparent governance.

Teams are encouraged to deploy artificial intelligence, data analytics, geographic information systems and drone technology to streamline public services. Core focus areas include AI‑powered government knowledge bases, robust data‑governance frameworks, AI‑enabled GIS mapping, environmental impact modeling, AI‑assisted preparation of DPRs and RFPs, and aerial surveillance via drones.

Minister Batra highlighted the untapped potential of Uttarakhand’s youth and academic institutions, urging them to channel innovation toward the genuine concerns of citizens. He stressed that technology can become the catalyst for practical, lasting solutions.

The hackathon’s roadmap begins with problem scoping and ideation, progresses through prototype creation, and incorporates mentorship from seasoned professionals before final evaluation. Winning concepts will gain pathways to pilot testing, incubation support, and industry partnerships.

Key deliverables include predictive traffic models for seasonal pilgrim influxes, real‑time environmental monitoring, disaster‑risk mapping, and enhanced emergency response mechanisms. Additionally, the program will explore digital avenues to bring government services to remote mountain communities.

Organisers stress a citizen‑first, responsible‑innovation ethos. The event is orchestrated by the Information Technology Development Agency (ITDA) in partnership with Axolotl Emprise LLP and a network of academic, governmental and ecosystem stakeholders. Its overarching goal is to nurture home‑grown technological solutions that directly address Uttarakhand’s unique challenges.
