Ghazipur – A coordinated operation by the district’s SWAT team and Kotwali police led to the detention of three locals suspected of ferrying a sizable shipment of illegal weapons into the city.

Major Weapons Confiscation

The raid took place close to Kaithwalia Pulia, where law‑enforcement uncovered a stash of 38 firearms. The haul included 19 pistols, 19 locally‑manufactured guns and 18 cartridges. Officers also recovered three mobile phones, a motorcycle and a modest cash amount of ₹900.

Suspects Trapped While Attempting to Flee

Following a tip received on Thursday night about an imminent weapons drop, SWAT commander Shailendra Pratap Singh and Crime Inspector Devendra Kumar Mishra sealed off the area. When the three men, riding a motorcycle, sensed they were being monitored, they tried to escape. The rapid‑response unit had already surrounded the spot, prompting the suspects to surrender peacefully.

Additional Leads and Ongoing Operations

All three detainees are residents of Ghazipur and appear to be part of an interstate smuggling network that sources arms from Khandwa and Burhanpur in Madhya Pradesh. Interrogations revealed two more accomplices. Police raids are now in progress across nearby villages to apprehend the remaining members and dismantle the larger trafficking ring.

The arrests form part of a district‑wide crackdown on illegal firearms, directed by the police chief, aimed at halting the flow of unregistered weapons across state borders.
