Kotdwar – A post on social media ignited a confrontation that quickly turned physical between Deepak Kumar (also known as Mohammad) and local entrepreneur Sanjeev Tank. Surveillance cameras captured the incident, showing a rapid shift from verbal sparring to pushing and shoving.
Traders Rally at Kotwali
When the clip went viral, a group of shopkeepers and labourers aligned with the BJP assembled outside Kotdwar Kotwali. They chanted slogans and called for immediate action against the alleged perpetrator.
Police Place Suspect in Custody
To prevent the situation from spiralling, police took Deepak Kumar into preventive detention. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur said the move was based on a formal complaint filed by Sanjeev Tank.
The ASP added that Kumar will be produced before the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate's court following standard legal procedures, and warned that no individual is permitted to dispense justice on their own.
Legal Warning Issued
Authorities emphasized that anyone attempting to disrupt public peace or engage in illegal activity will be dealt with under the law.
Investigation Ongoing
Investigators are reviewing the CCTV footage and the lodged complaint to piece together the exact events. Further action will be taken in line with legal statutes once the probe is complete.
