Dhanapur, Chandauli. In the early hours of Wednesday night, a seemingly impregnable dwelling in Birna village fell victim to a daring robbery. Intruders slipped past the locked doors, absconding with approximately ₹1.60 lakh in cash and an assortment of gold ornaments.

The property belongs to Bhanu Maurya. Since the second floor is still under construction, the family continues to occupy their previous house, leaving the new building sealed each night.

Following their usual routine, the family secured the fresh premises before retiring to the older home. Somewhere between dusk and dawn, unknown assailants overpowered the locks and rummaged through the rooms.

Stolen Cash and Gold Jewellery

When the Mauryas returned on Thursday morning, they discovered displaced furniture and belongings scattered across the floor. An inventory confirmed the disappearance of ₹1.60 lakh in cash, a gold chain, a ring, and several additional pieces of jewellery.

The victims promptly reported the incident to the local police via the PRV. Officers arrived swiftly, cordoned off the scene, and began collecting forensic evidence.

Police Scrutinise Surveillance Footage

Investigators have examined the CCTV cameras installed around the property. Initial reviews suggest the break‑in was captured on video, and the footage is now being analysed to identify the culprits.

Authorities are also probing how the perpetrators managed to bypass the locked doors and whether they possessed prior knowledge of the house’s temporary vacancy.

Residents Demand Heightened Security

The incident has amplified unease among neighbouring households, who claim similar thefts have surfaced in recent weeks. Villagers are urging law‑enforcement to increase night patrols and bolster overall security in the area.

Local leaders have called for stronger preventive measures, especially during periods when homes are unoccupied, to discourage future break‑ins.

Police continue their investigation, working diligently to locate the suspects and recover the stolen cash and jewellery.
