Deval, Chamoli: After two weeks of intensive training, a talent‑development camp wrapped up on October 2 with a vibrant closing ceremony in Wank village, Deval block. The event, staged by the Anant Nandas Foundation under the banner “Our Effort, Search for Talent,” aimed to uncover and polish hidden abilities among Himalayan youth.
The program, which kicked off on September 19, gathered 64 participants from Wank and surrounding hamlets. Its core mission was to equip rural and mountain youngsters with physical, creative, and career‑oriented skills.

Sports, Fitness and Self‑Defence
Led by Kalam Singh Bisht—founder and director of the foundation, ultra‑trail runner, and decorated former serviceman—the camp embraced the theme “Shastra, Shastra and Sports Development.” The agenda focused on instilling discipline, confidence, and practical capability in adolescents living in remote Himalayan zones.
Over the fortnight, campers tackled a spectrum of physical disciplines: running, cycling, boxing, mountaineering and self‑defence. Each session targeted endurance, mental resilience, and overall fitness, while exposing participants to adventure sports that could serve as gateways to future opportunities.
Special briefings were also delivered for those eyeing a career in the Indian Army. Information on the Agniveer recruitment process helped youngsters understand the pathways available and how to prepare effectively.
Creativity, Culture and Tech
The initiative went beyond athletics. Organisers wove in workshops that nurtured artistic expression, cultural awareness, and basic digital literacy.
Participants dabbled in music, dance, singing, drawing, and introductory computer courses. Parallel sessions highlighted environmental stewardship and the preservation of Uttarakhand’s folk traditions, reinforcing a holistic view of personal development.

Community Reception
The closing ceremony welcomed Gram Pradhan Radha Devi of Wank village, her husband Mohan Singh Rana, and numerous locals. villagers praised the program as a landmark effort, lauding the foundation’s dedication to empowering their youth through diverse training modules.
The full attendance of 64 youngsters underscored the strong desire among mountain youth for avenues in sports, education, defence, creative arts, and personal growth.
Addressing the group, foundation director Kalam Singh Bisht extended heartfelt wishes and reaffirmed the organization’s pledge to keep scouting and nurturing talent from remote regions, aiming to propel deserving participants onto national and international stages.
Invitation for Wider Involvement
According to the foundation, Bisht funds these camps from his own resources. The organization now calls on philanthropists and community leaders to join the cause, contributing according to their capacity.
