Dehradun – The Uttarakhand government has unveiled a large‑scale skill‑development drive aimed at aligning the state’s young workforce with the fast‑changing demands of modern industry. Spearheaded by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Department of Skill Development & Employment signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the M3M Foundation to create a pipeline of training, placement and self‑employment opportunities.
At a ceremony in Dehradun, Sanjay Kumar, Director (Training) of the department, and Dr. Aishwarya Mahajan, Managing Trustee and President of the M3M Foundation, formalised the partnership.
Four New Training Centres to Kick Off the Programme
The first phase will establish state‑of‑the‑art centres in Dehradun, Haldwani, Kashipur and Pithoragarh. Depending on demand and local logistics, the rollout may later extend to Almora and Barkot. Each hub will host at least two specialised courses, selected after a detailed assessment of regional industry needs.
Modern Technical Trades at the Core
Curricula focus on high‑growth sectors such as Electric Vehicles (EV), Auto‑Electrical Maintenance, Automobile Repair & Maintenance, Internet of Things (IoT) and Plumbing. Course selection will be continuously refined to reflect emerging job opportunities, ensuring that trainees acquire skills that are immediately relevant to employers.
Placement‑First Philosophy
Dr. Payal Kanodia, Chairperson and Trustee of the M3M Foundation, emphasized that the collaboration goes beyond classroom instruction. "We are building a skill ecosystem that directly feeds into industry demand, guaranteeing not just training but real‑world employment and sustainable livelihoods," she said.
The initiative will embed a robust placement support system, linking graduates with partner companies, monitoring job outcomes, and providing post‑training mentorship. Officials from the department, including Deputy Directors Chandrakanta (Employment) and Niranjan Khugshal (Training), as well as training institute leaders such as Principal Dinkar Rautela and Nodal Officer Vinita Badoni, attended the launch.
Looking Ahead
By integrating quality instruction with concrete industry partnerships, Uttarakhand aims to create a replicable model for youth empowerment across the Himalayas. The government expects the first batch of trainees to graduate by early 2025, ready to step into well‑paid, future‑proof roles.
